Lake Yelcho has 11 thousand hectares of emerald green waters and is considered one of the most beautiful in Chile.



The lake owes its excellent fishing to the great diversity of formations that its coasts present, highlighting its bays of reed beds, where the Rainbow trout take their body completely out of the water trying to capture the gigantic lice killers (odonates) that hatch in the place. To fish here, the recommended thing to do is floating line and dragonflies -in deer hair and foam- fishing mainly for ´´vista´´ trout, that is, to observe the trout jump and go in search of it.



But dry fly fishing is not everything, it is also done with sinking line and streamers, opting for the coasts covered with logs and rocks, casting as close as possible to the chosen obstacle, letting the fly sink and removing it with quick pulls and long. Here, they manage to find fat and colorful browns of various sizes.



Located 46 kilometers south of Chaitén.



Chaitén is located 204 km from Puerto Montt and 1,225 km south of Santiago de Chile. It has maritime access, and through the Austral Highway it connects with Coihaique and Puerto Montt.

By car:

From Puerto Montt you must take Route 7 towards Seno de Reloncaví, heading south, where you must take a ferry from Caleta La Arena to Caleta Puelche that will take you to Hornopirén. There you will have to take another ferry that, in a 5-hour trip, will take you to Caleta Gonzalo, 56 km from Chaitén, on Route 7.



By plane:

You should check the frequencies at the Puerto Montt airport, although there is generally at least one daily flight.



Boat:

There are frequencies that depart from Puerto Montt and that have as their end Puerto Natales or Punta Arenas, but that stop in Chaitén. Check the frequencies.



By Bus:

Daily frequencies depart from the Puerto Montt and Hornopirén Rodoviario Terminal that you should consult.



Encased by high hills crowned with snowdrifts and covered on their slopes by the jungle, it has very few free beaches. However, the beauty of its waters gains prominence just by looking at them.
