Rangiroa
Rangiroa is an atoll of the Tuamotu archipelago in French Polynesia. It is located northwest of the archipelago, 350 km from Tahiti.
It is one of the largest atolls in the world, with a total area of 1640 km², and a lagoon 78 km wide with a depth between 20 and 35 m. The reef is composed of 241 islets and restingas of a width between 300 and 600 m. Only four steps separate the ocean from the lagoon. The two most important atolls are north of Avatoru and Tiputa which concentrate the majority of the population. Avatoru being the most populated atoll of Tuamotu. The population lives on tourism, fishing and growing black pearls.

Tourism
In addition to the undisputed and stunning beauty that made these archipelagos famous, for divers the bottom of the sea hides incredible surprises.
The diving is good all year round, the water temperature varies from 26 to 29ºC and the visibility between 30 and 50m.
Marine life is very rich and diverse. The encounter with large mantas rays is quite common, besides the popular sharks, of several species like the lemon, black gall, the reef among others, as harmless as the turtles, Napoleon fish, barracudas, tunas, xita rays and many super shoals which are present in almost all dives. But what really drives the divers crazy are the dolphin encounters that are curious and interactive, a party!

Gastronomy
Tahitian cuisine explores much of what is offered by nature as fruits and seafood. Fruits like pineapple, banana, papaya, melon, apple are of excellent quality, especially the Moorea pineapple which is considered one of the best in the world. Fish is the main food in the region.
Weather
Rangiroa has a tropical rainforest climate with high precipitation figures all year round with a peak during the local summer. In combination with high temperatures this causes high humidity figures. An ever blowing sea breeze offers some cooling. From December till June there is a risk of hurricanes.
