Under its roof he became the illustrious poet Rafael Landívar. It was founded as a hermitage in 1565, where it is known as San Felipe. Then it was agreed that each year it would be visited in solemn process from the Cathedral.



Its patron, San Sebastián, was chosen to protect it from the damage caused by the constant seismic damage.



However, due to difficult access to the original site, it was moved to a new site in Antigua Guatemala. This temple was affected by an earthquake in 1689.



After several reconstruction works and being rebuilt, it became new in 1692 with parish status.





The history of the Colonial City temples is marked by the struggle and desire of its religious people to maintain their buildings. Many were the efforts, but from a series of telluric fuels in motion, it is in 1773 that this church does not pass the final round and the fall totally destroyed.



The temple was abandoned as indicated by the authorities of the time. Today it is a reminder of the noble work that its faithful maintained to keep it useful to the community.
