The Chankas, ancient settlers of these lands of Andahuaylas, never needed to create marvelous engineering works or great palaces or temples for their rulers and priests, in fact they do not even present an orderly planning in the construction of their homes. Could it be that they were little developed and did not reach the aesthetic splendor of other cultures? None of that, they had a different worldview about theirs: They did not need to put more beauty because their valleys and mountains had everything for their eyes, from the water that came from the sky and the river to the fruits of a fertile land that could feed everyone if it was worked on and respected accordingly. They were strong and feared by all the neighboring curacazgos, even by the Inkas, because without being a political unit, the Chankas confederations kept the Cuzco people on the other side of the Apurimac River for a long time.
Known as the meadow of the clouds, Andahuaylas is a city of cheerful countryside, abundant trees and an impressive variety of green hues, the ideal setting for rest and renewal of the spirit.
