San Giacomo Gate, perhaps the most beautiful of the access doors of the Venetian walls to the upper city of Bergamo, was built in 1592, it is built in pink white marble from the quarry of Zandobbio in Val Cavallina.
The construction of the Venetian walls began in 1561, and must have been the protected position west of the Venetian territory.
The walls have four doors that make the entrance to the upper part of the city: Puerta San Lorenzo, Puerta Sant'Agostino, Puerta Sant'Alessandro and Puerta San Giacomo, and until the middle of the 20th century, when the Campanone at 10 o'clock night was 100 and in the case of women.
