The official residence of His Majesty, the King of Sweden, is one of the largest palaces in Europe. Certain parts of the palace are accessible to tourists.
Stockholm Royal Palace was built in 1754 in the rubble of an ancient tower dating from the 12th and 13th centuries, the Three Crowns.
To further investigate Stockholm's Viking past, the Three Crowns Museum (Tre Kronor Museum) has been opened in the basement of the palace. In this museum you can see relics that have been preserved from the ancient tower.
The Royal Palace, located in the heart of Stockholm, was built in Italian Baroque architectural style, with ornate and colorful decoration.
Today the Royal Palace is open to the public for guided tours, and although it is no longer the residence of kings, various events related to the monarchy are held, such as receptions or official parties.
One of the biggest attractions is the changing of the guard that takes place in the castle courtyard.
