Crucita is an urban parish of Portoviejo since May 25, 1978, it currently has 12 thousand inhabitants and its population is dedicated to tourism, artisanal fishing and agriculture.
A fishing village has developed part of its daily life around paragliding and hang gliding flights. Crucita is considered as the top destination in Ecuador and one of the top three places in North and South America.
The flow of lovers of height began 10 years ago when the sky began to splash, especially on weekends, with the colors of paragliders.

Origin of its name
Its name is said to bear it because many years ago it was a place where the Virgin Mary and the Holy Cross were watched in the month of May, for Catholics the month of Mary. Pedro Schumacher, the Bishop, on his arrival, placed a cross where the temple currently stands and from that moment on it is called Crucita. It is only 27 km from Portoviejo, it is well known because it is an ideal place to practice sports such as paragliding. In the last ten years it has reached an incredible development due to the tourist potential due to the beautiful beach, the practice of free flight and water sports, and the infrastructure that it has today and that has made it a spa that we all want to go to. An ambitious first-class tourism project called Balsamaragua will also be developed here, in which foreign businessmen will invest.
Location: Crucita is located 27 kilometers from Portoviejo.
Attractive
• 90% of the year is suitable for flying, but especially on weekends and holidays and with a higher incidence in October or September.
• The national free flight championship (paragliding and hang gliding) is held.
How long paragliders can stay in the air depends on their ability to use updrafts.
• Its gastronomy is very varied, its food is made from seafood, bananas, peanuts, among others.
• Handicrafts: On the road to the Crucita parish, we find some places of traditional food, such as objects and crafts from the area, so in the El Sosote site, we find the tagua workshops.
• La Tagua: It is a seed that is obtained from the palm known as the tagua or vegetable ivory, this fruit is brought from the rural area of Portoviejo, it is also known as the Mococha.
Once the seed is collected, it is washed, dried, cut into a slice, and is ready for the production of a wide variety of objects such as jewelry, key rings, ornaments, buttons, among others.
