Monument to Victory. Before the earthquake, in front of the Hospital de Caridad on the western side, there was a small square called "San Juan de Dios", which after the earthquake and due to the new layout of the city moved from its original site, remaining located on land of property of the Unda, García-Herreros and Pérez Ferrero families. These lands were acquired by the municipality through deeds numbers 1892, 1893, 1897 from the First Notary Public of Cúcuta, authorized by agreement number 12 of July 13, 1882. This square should be called, after the earthquake: "La Pola", in honor of the martyr of Independence Policarpa Salavarrieta. But through the same agreement number 12 of 1882, he changed his name to Christopher Columbus because “October 12 is approaching, the fourth centenary of the discovery of America and that this city has not dedicated any public works to the illustrious man who after offering his efforts to the great work of the discovery of America, he drew forth his colossal inspiration at the cost of great sacrifices ”.
Located in the important sector of La Playa, streets 12 and 13, avenues 2ª and 3ª.
On several occasions and alternating with the Santander Park, the Plazuela del Libertador and the Carora Park, the famous bullfights were held on the occasion of the Julianas festivities, which were religiously programmed by the honorable Council to celebrate the Cry of Independence. Its trees were planted in 1899 by the commander of the then Bomboná Battalion No. 15 stationed in Cúcuta, AR Díaz, according to the note sent to the honorable Council, on May 12, 1899, where he requests permission to plant them and commits to its maintenance. With the help provided by the citizens and with contributions from the municipality, it was completed and it was inaugurated in 1910 with Don Pedro L. Jordán being mayor of the city of Cúcuta. In 1919, the Government of the Department changed the name of Cristóbal Colón to “La Victoria” Park, through ordinance No. 19 of that same year, for the “commemoration of the first centenary of the Battle of Boyacá, which ensured the freedom of South America ”. He was governor of Norte de Santander at that time, Dr. Fructuoso V. Calderón. And mayor of the city, Pedro Ramón Dávila. In that same year, by the efforts of Don Andrés 5. Fernández and Don Carlos Luís Jácome, the column was built and the statue of La Victoria was erected. The column was made by the master Crisanto Ramírez and the sculpture by the Cucuteño Olinto Marcucci.
