name's origin.

The origin of the geographical name of Ambo exists since time immemorial, approximately long before its political creation as a district and as a province, and even more so, since before the arrival of the Spanish to the New World. In this regard, there are three hypotheses that are manifested in popular or ethno-literary literature and in the possible linguistic alterations of some words as a result of the interference of Quechua and Spanish, the latter phenomenon very frequent in place names of pre-Hispanic origins. These hypotheses are the following:

Both Rivers.

There is an assumption that the term Ambo comes from the Spanish word ´´ambos´´, referring to the physical accident of the confluence, in the place, of the Huertas or Chaupihuaranga and the Huaríaca rivers, the same ones that from this union give rise to the Huallaga river; and that when the last letter of the adjective is deleted, the word Ambo has remained.

However, this assumption is easily rebuttable since Ambo predates the Spanish conquest or domination of Peruvian territory, that is, the imposition of the Spanish or Castilian language among us.

The Legend of ´´Ambuc Huata´´.

As expressed in the legend Ambo comes from the word or corruption of the Quechua word ´´Ambuc´´, as can be seen in the following narration:

A beautiful Panatagua maiden named Ambuc Huayta arrived sick to this narrow valley, at that time depopulated, in search of improving her health and with the spring weather, warm airs and pure and fresh waters. Due to these virtues, the maiden was cured of her ailments.

In recognition of the benefits of this unforgettable climate, the panatagua Curaca, father of the maiden, after founding the town, called this place ´´Ambuc´´, in homage to his beautiful daughter, a word that is Castilianized ´´Ambo´´ .

The Province of Ambo is a province of Peru, of the eleven that are within the Department of Huánuco.

It limits to the north with the province of Huánuco, to the east with the province of Pachitea, to the south with the Pasco Region and to the west with the province of Lauricocha.

A fertile and beautiful land is of legend and history, it is characterized by the beauty of its gardens and the delicious fragrance of the fruits of its orchards, it is surrounded by picturesque Andean mountains and tonically aired, by the cold winds that descend from the mountain ranges and by the warm ones that come from the jungle region.
